BLACKPOOL & FLEETWOOD TRAMWAY NEWS UPDATE
Blackpool & Fleetwood Tramway – Tuesday 11th September 2007

The major overhaul of Balloon 717 is continuing to progress in the Body Shop with original features starting to be restored to the tram. All the floor has now been laid and alhambrinal ceiling panels have also been reinstated. The channels for concealed saloon lighting have now been fitted and the woodwork around the window frames has been replaced with rexine lining panels being attached below window level. The swingover seating is also being trimmed in the traditional green moquette.

Meanwhile, externally the tram has been more or less completely panelled with the glazing also in place – this includes half drop windows. The tram now has its twin end and side destination apertures – with white on black blinds already in place. Finally, the cab ends remain to be panelled but it will have a modern skirt – as seen on sister 713 because of health and safety regulations.

The Illuminated Western Train is currently in two halves with Locomotive 733 in the Fitting Shop and Carriage 734 in the Body Shop. A new underframe is under construction for the loco and the body will eventually be transported onto this. Meanwhile, 734 is on trestles in the Body Shop with the underframe having been cleaned and painted with a start due soon on fitting a new saloon floor.

Jubilee 762 derailed as it attempted to access the inner loop at Pleasure Beach on 30th July. The front bogie of the tram carried straight on but the rear bogie took the points correctly. The tram was quickly rerailed but for a time the loop was only available for use under Inspector supervision.
