Blackpool Corporation Tramways Brush 298
Location of Restoration: Mode Wheel Workshops, Salford
Work has been progressing slowly for many years on this Brush Car which will eventually operate at Crich when the work is completed. The tram will be restored to original condition. The story of 298 shows the difficulties that tram restoration has with funds and volunteer labour still needed for the task to be completed. So far the trams side panelling has been completed, the destination equipment has been fitted, the sliding roof has been reinstalled, the ends have been returned to the original profile and the windscreens and head and tail lamps have been fitted. Work is now being concentrated on the fitting of internal panelling, side beading and the flooring. The project still has quite a way to go.

Ipswich Corporation Tramways 33
Restoration began in 2003 on this tram which dates from 1904 and was built by Brush of Loughborough. The tram was acquired by the Ipswich Transport Museum in 1976 and remained unrestored for many years before this restoration began after the tram was used as a summer house in Claydon. So far work has included rubbing down the paint work to reveal the original signwriting and lining before one side and one end was prepared and primed. The platform area has also been reconstructed with a temporary controller fitted for display purposes. The saloon roof has also been repaired with a whole which was made for a chimney now removed before waterproofing commences.

Leeds Corporation Tramways 345
Location of Restoration: Crich Tramway Village Workshops
345 was moved back to Crich for a start to be made on its restoration in 2002 and since then work has progressed quickly. The upper deck structure was completed in late 2002 and was moved on an accomodation truck into the Exhibition Hall (see the picture here). The latest progress on the lower deck has seen the completion of the underframe and saloon skeleton and this section has now been prepared for painting. The trucks and motors have been stripped with the wheelsets being sent away to a sub-contractor and repairs started on the motors. The side frames have also been tested and they will then be sent away for welding to be undertaken on any flaws found. The funding for this project is coming from the Tramcar Support Organisation.

Manchester Carriage and Tramways Company Limited L53
