DISAPPOINTMENT & PLEASURE IN CRYSTAL PALACE OVER TRAMLINK EXTENSION AXE Crystal Palace has seen a mixed reaction over the news that the Tramlink extension to their town has been axed with many traders being disappointed whilst members of a local association pleased that the tram will not now cut through the Crystal Palace Park.
Sue Nagle, founder of Triangle Traders (a group which represents Crystal Palace traders), was disappointed at the news: “interviewed every trader in the area, and 75 out of 76 traders asked, said they wanted the Tramlink. It is a way of bringing customers up here without the need of parking. Without Tramlink we will lose shops. The area is in decline and we are in desperate need of Tramlink.”
However, on the negative side was the Crystal Palace Park Community Association who were pleased that the tram would no longer be running through the middle of the Park. Chairman John Payne commented: “It would set a wrong precedent for parks. Would it bring increased benefits to the area? It's far more likely to take people away to Croydon than bring them to Crystal Palace. Our roads are not suitable for trams.”

| British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email. |
