“EXTEND TRAMLINK AS IT IS LONDON’S GREENEST FORM OF TRANSPORT”
London Tramlink – Sunday 31st May 2009

Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, has been urged to reinstate the Crystal Palace extension of the Tramlink network as it is the “greenest form of transport in the capital”. The plea was made at Mayor’s Question Time by London Assembly Member (Labour), Valerie Shawcross.

Ms Shawcross – who is also former leader of Croydon Council – told the Mayor that trams only emit 40 grams of polluting C02 per passenger kilometre whereas family cars (176), buses (83), underground (77.5), DLR (75) and overground rail services (48) all emit more.

Ms Shawcross said: “The mode of transport giving out the least CO2 is Croydon Tramlink by a very long way. Will you now reinstate the extension to Crystal Palace into the next stage of the transport strategy?"

In reply Mr Johnson said he was in favour of Tramlink extensions but that without any funding from central government there would be no way the scheme could be progressed at the current time.

British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email.
