IS THERE STILL HOPE FOR THE CROSS RIVER TRAM?
Cross River Tram – Sunday 31st May 2009

The Cross River Tram project which seemed to be dead in the water after Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, couldn’t find the funding for it late last year, may have a future last year. However, mystery surrounds a comment by a key transport advisor to Boris’ administration as the support for the scheme seems to have come out of the blue.

Kulveer Ranger, the aforementioned transport advisor, said at a committee meeting as part of the State of London debate that Boris was “keen to see the CRT going forward and it would be top of his list” (when he next went to the government for funding.

However, Caroline Pidgeon, London Assembly Member, chairwoman of the transport committee and supporter of the project was shocked by the statement. She said: “I wrote it down because I thought ‘I can’t believe he just said that’. In response to a question, Kulveer Ranger said Boris would like to see the CRT going forward and it would be top of his list for lobbying the Government for funding. So I am writing to Boris and Kulveer to ask for clarification of what they mean by that, because it’s the first I have ever heard of it. But that’s what Kulveer said and he is Boris’s key transport advisor.”
