FUNDING FOR BUSINESS REBATE TO COME FROM GOVERNMENT John Swinney, the Finance Director for the Scottish Government, has confirmed that 75% of the total cost of the proposed rates rebate for businesses affected by the construction works for the Trams for Edinburgh scheme will be met by the Scottish Government.
Mr Swinney told MSPs at Holyrood: “If the city council comes to the Government with such a proposition, the Government is duty bound to provide 75 per cent assistance. The test for hardship relief is a very clear test which the assessor and the council must consider and the Government will act accordingly."
Council officials in Edinburgh are currently investigating whether to give full business rate rebates to those firms affected and are expected to reveal whether this will happen by the end of the month.

| British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email. |
