NEW FENCING FOR TRAMWAY IN CLEVELEYS
Blackpool & Fleetwood Tramway – Sunday 11th May 2008

Blackpool Borough Council are set to embark on a summer of fence replacement around the tramway around Rossall Road in Cleveleys. The fences separate the tramway tracks from pedestrians and traffic and it is hoped that the replacement fences will make it more difficult for people to put their lives at risk by trespassing on the tramway.

150 panels along Rossall Road will be replaced and a new timber post and rail system will be installed along Copse Road, Fleetwood. This system is designed to be both more attractive and easier and safer to repair. 30 panels have already been installed alongside the tramway between Cleveleys and Fleetwood. The area around Thornton Gate permanent way yard will also be fenced and tidied up after police requests.

Cllr Maxine Callow, cabinet member for regeneration and tourism, said: “Both the panels we use and the new timber and rail system act as a demarcation to prevent pedestrians straying onto the tramway. In the long run this will save the council money as the new systems are low maintenance and easier to repair."

The work will cost £30,000.
