METRO 07 TO BE NAMED BILLY WRIGHT
Midland Metro – Sunday 11th May 2008

As previously reported on British Trams Online Midland Metro are to name one of their trams Billy Wright after the former Wolverhampton Wanderers and England footballer following a poll in a local newspaper. The ceremony to name the tram will take place on Tuesday 13th May and it has been confirmed the tram involved will be 07.

The ceremony will commence at the Wednesbury depot before moving on to Wolverhampton St Georges. Billy’s daughter and granddaughter will be in attendance along with several of his former playing colleagues at both Wolves and England.

Cllr Gary Clarke, Chairman of Centro, said: “I used to attend all of Wolves home games when Billy was in his heyday. He truly was an inspirational local hero. I am proud and honoured to be naming a tram after him in recognition of his achievements and contribution to the West Midlands.”

This will become the thirteenth of the fleet to be named and Centro are now planning to name one after a regional hero – another poll will be initiated to find this name.
