MER DRIVING EXPERIENCE SEASON EXTENDED
Manx Electric Railway – Sunday 7th March 2010

“The Ultimate Driving Experience” on the Manx Electric Railway has proved to be such a success that the Department of Tourism and Leisure have announced that extra dates will be run throughout June and July 2010. The experience had originally been available in April and May only.

The event gives members of the public a chance to experience driving one of the Island’s historic Electric Trams. Each experience will be run over a full day and will include safety briefings, a history of the trams, theory information and ultimately the chance to drive one of the trams between Laxey and Ramsey.

Martin Quayle MHK, Minister for Tourism and Leisure, said: “These ultimate driving experience trips are a perfect opportunity for any railway enthusiasts to experience and appreciate firsthand the skill that goes into operating our Electric Trams. I’m delighted that they have been so popular with members of the public. It is fantastic to see how accessible the Heritage Railways are becoming to us all. I’m sure these experiences would make fantastic gifts.”

Limited dates are available and bookings are made on a first come first served basis. The total cost is £300 (or £350 with an accompanying guest). Bookings can be made to Marieanne Bridges at Marieanne.bridges@gov.im or by phone on 01624 697419.

British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email.
