METROLINK EXTENSION TO AIRPORT BACK ON THE AGENDA Significant steps towards extending Metrolink to Manchester Airport are set to take place later this year. The GMITA are approved releasing £26 million to fund design and preparatory work on the line. The construction of the line will be funded mainly from the Greater Manchester Transport Fund.
Cllr Richard Knowles, Chair of the GMITA Capital Projects Committee, said: “We are delighted to see that such a strong start is to be made this year on the delivery of the Metrolink line to Manchester Airport. This is a very important stage of the delivery, which as well as advanced works, involves developing the designs in further detail. We will also be doing detailed work on the scope and programme for diverting utilities such as electrical cables and pipes. Extensive topographic, geotechnical and environmental surveys will also take place and the results used to inform the design process."

| British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email. |
