TENDER OPENED FOR GREATER MANCHESTER “OYSTER CARD”
Manchester Metrolink – Sunday 7th March 2010

Plans to introduced ticketless travel into Greater Manchester – likely to start on the Metrolink network – have moved a step closer after the release of a tender document to companies to bid for the contract. The plan would be similar to London’s Oyster Card but could also be extended to allow theatre tickets and shopping to be purchased.

The tender document states: “The total value of the contract will depend upon the level of usage of smart-ticketing products. GMPTE will have the unilateral right to extend the scope of the scheme to cover the bus and rail network in Greater Manchester, along with parking and cycle schemes and other ticketing related activity.”

Proposals should be submitted by the end of March.

British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email.
