FTF Ltd have struggled to keep the festival running over the past few years with appeals for physical help and investment from the business community and the local authority.
Keith Yates, Festival spokesman, said: “We've run out of steam and energy. We've been lurching from one crisis to another every year. We were putting on the festival at great cost personally in terms of health and time and energy. I'm relieved we've not got the struggles and fights and battles to get the festival together. There is a sense of relief, but disappointment for the town which is what it's done for.”
At a meeting between the organisers and the Chamber of Commerce, the business community felt it best to allow the tramway upgrade work to continue unhindered without any breaks for the Festival. Although currently the plans for the upgrade remain as they were with a six month break over the summer, but it is believed negotiations are underway to change this.
