DECISION NOT IMMINENT ON PRINCES STREET WORKS EMBARGO FOR FESTIVAL
Edinburgh Tram Project – Sunday 29th March 2009

The City of Edinburgh Council have revealed that they have yet to make a decision – and are unlikely to until early summer – on whether to call of the planned embargo on the tram construction works on Princes Street during the Edinburgh Festival. Pressure is apparently mounting from retail groups that the work must not be continuing in the festive shopping centre and so they have urged the Council to cancel the embargo to ensure this happens.

A spokeswoman from the City Council is quoted on The Scotsman website: “We have not made a final decision over this and it is not likely to be made until work on Princes Street is well under way."

Michael Apter, chairman of the West End Traders Association, said: “We just want these tramworks over and done with. Unless it is going to have a critical impact on the ambience of the festivals and affect major events then we think work should continue through August."

British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email.
