TRAMS WILL RUN RAMSEY TO LAXEY AFTER ALL
Manx Electric Railway – Sunday 23rd March 2008

Adrian Earnshaw, the much maligned Tourism and Leisure Minister, has announced in Tynwald that trams will run between Ramsey and Laxey after all this summer. £5 million proposals were put forward which will see trams run on a single line basis between July and September.

The plan will see one of the tracks replaced before July – in effect bringing forward the planned work from winter 2008/9 – and then the remainder will be dealt with after the season ends.

The work will be undertaken by RMS Locotech and will be managed by CDL. Mr Earnshaw asked for permission from Tynwald whether he could the £1,897,000 set aside for work next year now along with an additional £2.8 million. No-one voted against the proposal.

A spokesman from the Manx Electric Railway Society said although they were happy with the news they were still far from convinced by Mr Earnshaw: “We are pleased that the decision to close the track has now been reversed. But we still have concerns regarding Mr Earnshaw and the way that he made the initial decision.”

British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email.
