KEN WANTS TO TAKEOVER TRAMLINK
Croydon Tramlink – Sunday 16th March 2008

As part of his re-election manifesto for London Mayor, Ken Livingstone has pledged to take control of Croydon Tramlink and extend it through to Crystal Palace with the addition of further trams.

Mr Livingstone – never one to let a chance go by to launch into a tirade against the privately owned Tramlink system – also criticised Tramtrack Croydon Limited for not doing enough to increase the capacity of the system.

Roger Harding, General Manager of Tramtrack, warned that it would cost Mr Livingstone to gain control of Tramlink: “To do that he obviously has to reach a commercial deal with us. That would be for our shareholders and our financial backers to decide. As far as we're concerned, we're actually providing the service that the Mayor has requested us to provide."

The election for London Mayor will take place on 1st May 2008, and nominations do not actually open until 18th March. However, the three main political parties have all named their candidates - Mr Livingstone from Labour, Boris Johnson from the Conservatives and Brian Paddick (Liberal Democrats). All three have pledged their support for extending Tramlink.

British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email.
