METRO TRAM TO BE NAMED AFTER BILLY WRIGHT It has been revealed that a Midland Metro tram is to be named after Wolverhampton Wanderers and England football legend Billy Wright. The Wolverhampton Express and Star ran a competition to select a new name and Billy Wright came out on top with 90% of the vote.
The tram will be named on 13th May with Mr Wight’s daughter, Vicky, and granddaughter Kelly will be present along with Derek Horton who won a competition to drive the newly named tram.
The other names in the running for a name were Francis Asbury, an evangelist preacher, and author Jerome K Jerome. They gained 4% and 6% of the vote respectively.
