As Work to divert utilities in Holt Town continues a one way system is being introduced to enable further works to take place. The one way system has been introduced (as from yesterday) in Beswick Street and will remain in operation for up to four months.
All southbound traffic on Beswick Street from New Ashton Road to Pollard Street East is being diverted following Pollard Street, Cambrian Street, Hillkirk Street and Ashton New Road to enable further utility diversion works to take place. Initially the utility diversion work was being undertaken at weekends but this is now likely to be extended to weekdays as well.
Philip Purdy, Metrolink Director at GMPTE, said: “We've been working closely with Manchester City Council to plan for this and have tried to limit the amount of disruption it will cause by condensing the work schedule. I'd like to ask people to bear with us while we carry out this essential work, which will help us to bring Metrolink to Holt Town and beyond."
Construction work is already underway to create an underpass at Great Ancoats Street and utility diversions are being carried out on Pollard Street, Carruthers Street and Merrill Street.
Further work on bringing Metrolink to Holt Town will star later this month with heavy duty concrete piling rigs arriving in late June. These will create the foundations of the new Metrolink track and tramstop between Ashton New Road, Holt Town and Cambrian Street.
Holt Town will be served by trams on the East Manchester line to Droylsden. Services are expected to operate every six minutes when the line opens.
