HOTEL TO OPEN IN EDINBURGH DUE TO TRAM PROJECT
Trams for Edinburgh – Sunday 29th June 2008

An Irish-American “hotel giant” has reportedly bought a former Georgian Townhouse by the Edinburgh Playhouse in the city centre to transform into a 150 room boutique hotel and the Trams for Edinburgh project has said to be a key feature of having the development.

The Fitzpatrick Hotel Group have said that it should open by the end of 2010, cost around £35 million and create over 100 jobs. They have also said the tram was a major factor in their decision to go for the site at the top of Leith Walk.

* In a less positive development from Edinburgh a bar in the city centre has closed for the duration of the tram works in Shandwick Place – citing the disruption caused by the work as the reason. The Grosvenor closed in mid June and is scheduled for reopening on 16th July – after the first stage of the roadworks. It is claimed that no transport access and limited pedestrian access to the area has left them with no choice.

British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email.
