MORE HELP FOR HARD HIT BUSINESSES
Trams for Edinburgh – Sunday 1st June 2008

A new fund is to be set up to help businesses affected by the tram construction works. This scheme will only be available to businesses where their reduction in turnover is equal or more than the average downturn across the city. A full rebate from their business rates will be available to those who can prove their turnover is over 25% with up to 50% for those below this mark. Firms within 100 metres of the works only will be able to apply.

Graham Russell, chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses, said: “This is marvellous news, this is an issue that we have been pushing on for several months with the council and I am delighted they have seen sense. It will go some way to balance out us being let down by the rates assessor not budging on his 20 per cent and now we can hopefully move on. I think the cross-party support this issue has received from the Scottish Parliament has helped."

British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email.
