CAR COLLIDES WITH TRAM IN MANCHESTER CITY CENTRE
Manchester Metrolink – Thursday 5th July 2007

A car was involved in a collision with a tram in Mosley Street, Manchester City Centre on Sunday 1 July at around 1330. The three passengers in the Mercedes car escaped serious injury. The tram involved was 1025.

The incident happened in front of the Manchester Art Gallery at the junction of Booth Street and Mosley Street and caused severe delays for both tram services and motorists in the area.

Ken Lau, who was a passenger in the car driven by his father, said: “A few months ago, I was travelling into town on the tram and there was a collision in exactly the same place. My sister was very shaken up by the collision and she was taken to hospital with the cuts from the glass she received, but she doesn't seem to be too badly injured. There were two trams coming - one from town and the other from the opposite direction - and we pulled out slowly but we were still hit by one of them."

The car was removed by the Emergency Services and GMPTE workers within an hour of the incident with tram services resuming to Piccadilly Station soon after.
