FEAR OVER JOBS ON METROLINK? Stagecoach who will take charge of the Metrolink network this month have allegedly caused consternation amongst staff after they have decided to bring in an outside contractor to clean the trams. This has now led to some staff fearing for their jobs.
However, it should be pointed out that all 33 cleaners are being transferred to Solo Services and it is reported that they will not suffer any reduction in wages or working conditions. Solo Services are a national contract cleaning company who recently clinched a deal to clean the South Yorkshire Supertram trams.
Graham Stringer, MP for Blackley, said: It's very worrying that Stagecoach are increasing their monopoly position in Manchester. The experience of their holdings is that they exploit both the public and their staff."
A spokesman for Metrolink told the Manchester Evening News that she could not confirm if any other sections of the workforce would be similarly outsourced.
