DLR TAKES NEXT STEP TO DAGENHAM
Docklands Light Railway – Thursday 5th July 2007

The second phase of consultation for the proposed extension of the Docklands Light Railway to Dagenham Dock has now been launched. This includes asking the opinion of local residents, organisations and groups on the various route options.

Over 60,000 leaflets have been sent out asking the opinions of these groups and they will alos be provided with information on the results of the first phase of consultation – when 95% of respondents said they were in favour of the expansion. The extension would likely open in 2016 and would leave the current DLR network at Gallions Reach with new stations at Beckton Riverside, Creekmouth, Barking Riverside, Dagenham Vale and Dagenham Dock. Funding is not currently in place but the idea is well supported by the Mayor of London’s office.

Richard de Cani, DLR Head of Planning and Development, said: “We received a tremendously favourable response to our first round of consultation and it is clear there is significant local support for our proposed extension. I would urge recipients to read and respond to our latest leaflet as DLR is committed to two-way consultation and now is the time for interested parties to help shape the development of the project."

All respondents to the leaflet will be entered into a prize draw where they have the chance to win £250 of holiday vouchers from Thomas Cook.

Public Exhibitions on the plans will take place as follows:
* 9 July – Castle Green, Gale Street, Dagenham
* 10 July – St Marks Community Centre, Tollgate Road, Beckton
* 11 July – CEME Campus, Marsh Way, Rainham
