FRESH HOPE FOR RAWTENSTALL TO MANCHESTER TRANSPORT LINK
Manchester Metrolink – Sunday 18th January 2009

There is new hope that plans for a tram (or train) link between Rawtenstall (on the East Lancashire Railway) and Manchester City Centre may get the go-ahead, despite the fact that the TIF money was rejected in December which had been seen as necessary for the link.

The new hope is a result of the Pennine Lancashire Multi-Area Agreement being ratified by Prime Minister Gordon Brown last week. Part of this agreement includes a pledge to invest in a new tram or rail link between Rawtenstall and Bury (and then onwards to Manchester City Centre). Journey times between Rawtenstall and Manchester Victoria would likely be 34 minutes and a GMPTE commissioned study suggested the scheme would cost approximately £30 million.

British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email.
