PLANS UNVEILED FOR TRAMS FOR BARNET
Barnet – Sunday 18th January 2009

Plans have been unveiled of a tramway to serve Barnet in north London. The plans are in the very early stages but those campaigning for it to be built envisage running from Ealing Broadway to Finchley via Brent Cross, West Hendon and Colindale. A separate branch would be constructed from Finchley Road via West Hampstead and Cricklewood with the two joining at Brent Cross.

A group of cross-party politicians (including Councilors from both the Labour and Conservative parties), environmentalists and transport groups are joining up to attempt to gain more support and funding for the project. It is hoped the tramway would ease road congestion and aid the reduction of climate change.

A meeting was due to be held last week to discuss the proposals.
