CHANGES AFOOT FOR FIRST SERIES METROLINK LRVS A special project team has been set up at Stagecoach Metrolink tasked with carrying out modifications for the LRV fleet. The modifications should include retractable couplers for all the first series LRVs – allowing them all to be used on the Eccles line.
48 new retractable Dellner Couplers have been ordered to enable the running of the remaining 23 first series cars (1005, 1010 and 1015 already have retractable couplers fitted). A new concept design for the coupler cover (fender) and raising mechanism has been proved with the aid of a full size mock up.
Other modifications being considered for the fleet include new air compressors as a part of a general reliability programme. 35 new compressors will be ordered for the current fleet.
A naming we missed was that of 1025 back on 30th November 2007. This was named Fred G Fitter for a few days, before being removed on 2nd December 2007. Fred was Metrolink’s Electrical Engineer who retired on 30th November.

| British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email. |
