Gallery 471: Volks Electric Railway - June & July 2014

Never previously illustrated on British Trams Online we take a trip down to Brighton for a collection of photos from the Volks Electric Railway. The Volks Electric Railway opened on 4th August 1883 and is the world's oldest operating electric railway although over the years there have been a number of changes to the route and length of the railway. It currently runs between the Aquarium and Black Rock on a 2ft 8 1/2 in gauge with a fleet of five cars in Brighton although two of these are currently out of service awaiting restoration which will come in 2016 thanks to Heritage Lottery funding. This collection of photos was taken on two separate visits by David Bosher on 21st June and 17th July 2014.

All Photographs in this collection were taken by David Bosher
