Gallery 430: Metrolink prepares for the opening of the Oldham town centre extension |
The original alignment of the Oldham and Rochdale line through the old Oldham Mumps stop closed to passengers on Friday 17th January to allow just over a week to connect the new Oldham town centre extension to the network ahead of a planned opening on Monday 27th January. This gallery starts on the last day of operation as we see some LRVs traversing the old track through Oldham Mumps as well as some driver training through the town centre. We then move on to see the progress of the new track being connected to the existing layout at Werneth and at the new Oldham Mumps interchange. The collection concludes with some views of testing on both the Rochdale town centre line - not due to open until the spring - and the Oldham town centre extension.
Photographs in this collection were taken by Steve Hyde |
