Gallery 405: Manchester Metrolink opens to Ashton-under-Lyne

The latest extension of Manchester Metrolink opened to the public from the start of service on Wednesday 9th October as the line between Droylsden and Ashton-under-Lyne on the East Manchester Line commenced operations. M5000 3012 ran the first service from Victoria to Ashton-under-Lyne and then back to Bury as the first day seemed to go without a major hitch. This collection of photos starts off with the Shadow running the week before the service began and we then move onto opening day itself with views from the Manchester city centre as trams arrive for Ashton and then we take a look at the new section of line. The collection then ends with a few photos taken after dark on Friday 11th October.

Photographs in this collection were taken by Steve Hyde & Steve Kemp.
