Gallery 345: Opening of the Rochdale Line

The latest part of the Manchester Metrolink to open to the public did so on Thursday 28th February when trams started to run between Shaw & Crompton and Rochdale Railway Station. Trams run every 12 minutes between St Werburgh's Road and Rochdale and travel through some of the most rural looking areas on any UK tram system. This collection features images not only from the first day but also the last day of shadow running on 27th February.

Photographs in this collection were taken by Harold Hull, Steve Hyde, Ralph Oakes-Garnett, Ken Walker and Mervyn Williams
