Gallery 313: Beamish Power from the Past 2012
The annual Power from the Past event took place at Beamish, The Living Museum of the North between 30th August and 2nd September with the usual mix of vintage transport on both the roads and rail. This year trams took more of a back seat than usual with no loan vehicles visiting however despite this the paint brush had been out and two of the resident trams received new liveries. The main star of the show was Gateshead 10 which was returned to its Grimsby and Immingham days with a repaint into British Railways green livery and it also assumed its identity of Grimsby and Immingham 26 - this tram made its debut running in these colours at the event. The other tram to receive a new livery was Oporto 196 which has been painted in the striking South Shields blue and yellow livery. Sdaly this tram was unable to operate as its commissioning had not been completed but it was displayed on the Depot fan throughout the event. In addition to these two trams and the other vheicles in operation on the tramway we are also able to bring you a few images of the latest tram acquisition for Beamish - Leamington and Warwick 8, with huge thanks to Paul Jarman for allowing us to see this tram behind the scenes. Away from the trams there was action on the Museum's roads with various vintage vehicles in operation whilst the Colliery Railway and Rowley Railway also saw vehicles on loan and in operation. This collection of photos features images from the middle two days of the event and as has become customary with Beamish events not only includes the trams but also other forms of transport across the site so you get the full idea of what was happening!
