Gallery 283: Blackpool Trams - The Operating Fleet 2011
2011 was certainly not a classic year for the Blackpool tramway, as the system upgrade progressed towards a conclusion. Sadly the traditional trams went out with more of a fizzle than a bang, as severe delays meant that the tramway never re-opened north of Little Bispham. This had a knock-on effect on the tram fleet, as the lack of open tramway meant that less vehicles were needed to operate a service, and the result was the lowest number of serviceable cars at Blackpool for over a century! Despite this however, it was a historic season as many of the fleet ran in service on their native rails for the last year ever. To commemorate this, we bring you images of every tram that ran in passenger service at Blackpool during 2011. Please note that a small number of trams – such as Coronation 660 and Balloon 701 – ran ‘out of service’ and are not included here, nor are the new Flexity2 trams or works vehicles.
