Gallery 281: Tram Moves Around Manchester November/December 2011
Monday 28th November was another historic and exciting day in tramway preservation history, as Blackpool Balloon 708 left its home on the Fylde coast for the first - and probably last - time ever, to move to a new home in Greater Manchester. The following day witnessed even more excitement, as another preserved Blackpool tram, Brush Railcoach 623, moved to a new home. Whereas 708 has been moved into temporary storage and will have to wait for a more permanent home, 623 was delivered to the Heaton Park Tramway where it is expected to enter public service early in 2012! As if all that wasn't enough excitement, Balloon 702 left Trafford on Friday 9th December and was moved to the East Lancashire Railway for a further period of storage. We are delighted to bring you a set of photos showing these moves, plus a few other bonus images! Photographs in this Gallery were taken by Joe Savage, Martin Stricklands, Dave Monaghan & Andrew Blood on 28th & 29th November and 9th December 2011.
