NET EXTENSION TO HEANOR DISCUSSED Talks have commenced over whether an extension of Nottingham Express Transit to Heanor would be possible. Cllr Richard Robinson from Broxtowe Borough Council, Nick Palmer MP for Broxtowe and local residents would like to see the current tram line to Phoenix Park extended to Heanor via Kimberley (as previously reported) and Eastwood. It is planned that a further meeting will be held with Nottinghamshire County Council in March.
Cllr Robinson said: “The next stage is to get public support and funding for a feasibility study. This will look at routes and how it would connect with other transport systems."
Dr Palmer added: “The objective is to see whether we can come up with a viable proposal to benefit the people of Kimberley, Eastwood and Heanor. Whether the decision for the current extension is a yes or no, we don't want a hiatus of two or three years where people scratch their heads and think 'what do we do now?' We are seeing if there is a sensible case that can be made."

| British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email. |
