MORE INFORMATION EVENTS FOR METROLINK EXTENSIONS
Manchester Metrolink – Sunday 22nd February 2009

Further information events are to take place for the public to find out more about the forthcoming extensions to Manchester Metrolink – this time in South Manchester for the line to Chorlton. Two events are being held by the GMPTE and MPact-Thales.

The events planned will take place as follows:
* Tuesday 24th February from 1800-2000 – Kings Road Primary School, Old Trafford
* Thursday 5th March from 1730 to 2000 – Chorlton Library, Manchester Road

Philip Purdy, GMPTE’s Metrolink Director, said: “2009 is going to be an exciting time for Metrolink as work really starts to take place on the ground. This month we'll be continuing the vegetation clearance we started last year along the length of the route in preparation for main construction work. We are committed to keeping in touch with local residents and businesses as the Metrolink line takes shape. We've just distributed nearly 9,000 copies of our newsletter 'The Link' to people who live along the route, and these information events will be the first of many. I hope people take the opportunity to come along and find out more about the plans."

The South Manchester line will leave the Altrincham line just after the Trafford Bar stop and new stops are to be built at Firswood, Chorlton and St Werburgh’s Road. It is planned that trams will start running in spring 2011.

Some clearance work to remove overgrown vegetation along the route took place late last year and further similar work is planned over the next few weeks. In addition work is to start later this month to construct a work compound on the site of the new Depot at Old Trafford with main construction commencing here in the spring.
