TRY THE TRAM CAMPAIGN FOR CHRISTMAS
Blackpool & Fleetwood Tramway – Sunday 21st December 2008

A campaign has been launched by the GMPTE this week to encourage people to try the tram over the festive period. More than 200,000 copies of the “Try the Tram” leaflet are being posted to residents living near the Metrolink lines with discounts being offered on leading high street brands with a valid tram ticket.

Carol singers from the University of Manchester Chorus were also used to perform for passengers on board trams throughout the week.

Philip Purdy, Metrolink Director at the GMPTE, said: “We want to encourage people who have never travelled on Metrolink to give it a go over the festive season. I'm sure the carol singers will also help to bring a bit of festive cheer to our regular customers. Metrolink passengers avoid having to buy petrol, pay to park or getting stuck in traffic jams. All of the stops also have ramps or lifts so you don't have to walk up and down steps with your shopping. I'm pleased we've been able to link up with leading high street brands to offer discounts on shops, restaurants and cinema tickets to both new and existing passengers."

* Further details about the campaign can be found on the “Try the Tram” website - here. This includes discounts of up to 20% at the Triangle and the Printworks in Manchester with a valid Metrolink ticket.

British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email.
