TRAM WORK EMBARGO STARTS – AND STILL THE TRADERS AREN’T HAPPY
Trams for Edinburgh – Sunday 21st December 2008

The embargo in December of any construction work for the Trams for Edinburgh project is continuing but despite the lack of work being done traders in Leith Walk are still complaining because barriers remain in the road – due to health and safety concerns.

Traders in the area claim that the barriers – located between Annandale Street and Brunswick Road – prevent people from crossing the road, and so the embargo is not having its required effect.

Gordon Burgess, Chairman of the Leith Business Association, said: “We feel angry that the road has not been put back to the way it was before. The embargo is welcome – anything that helps bring business to the area is welcome. But this is just another incident in a long line of communication breakdowns between tie and the traders, because we thought we were getting the road back to the way it was before the tram work started. We just have to put up with their way of doing things – it's the law according to tie."

British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email.
