MANCHESTER REVEALS THEIR TIF WISH LIST
Manchester Metrolink – Sunday 9th December 2007

For the first time the GMPTA have officially revealed their full wish list to improve transport in Greater Manchester, if they are lucky enough to get the Transport Innovation Fund money. As would be expected Metrolink features quite highly on the list which is part of the Regional Centre Transport Strategy.

The tram based projects which would be funded are:
* 1,000 extra park and ride spaces at Metrolink and bus interchanges at Ashton, Leigh and Chorlton * Completion of Metrolink expansion
* New cross city line (either down from Victoria to Cornbrook via Deansgate or Victoria to Cornbrook via Mount Street, Cross Street and Corporation Street – the latter is believed to be the favourite)

It is believed that if the cash does flow from the TIF all the projects in the report will be completed within five years, otherwise it would be 30 years before completion would be possible.
