LATEST TRACKWORK UPDATE FROM BLACKPOOL
Blackpool & Fleetwood Tramway – Sunday 9th December 2007
The last week has seen more progress on the trackwork on the Blackpool and Fleetwood Tramway which has seen it close for the winter. All locations – Pleasure Beach-South Pier, Manchester Square to Central Pier, Gynn Square to Bispham and Little Bispham have seen work this week.
At Pleasure Beach the track on the loop has now been completely lifted and track is now being removed between Sandcastle and South Pier. There has been a deep excavation at the south end points. A concrete base has been completed from the south points to Sandcastle.
On the Manchester Square to Central Pier section the concrete base is being laid in alternate segments whilst preparation to lift the track in front of Central Pier is underway with the rest of the Manchester Square to Central Pier section having already been lifted – with the exception of the Foxhall Square points.
A concrete base has been laid north of the Gynn crossover points to Cabin, although there may be another layer to come as lattice forming sections are laid out by the trackbed side. The track in the complete Gynn Square to Bispham section has now been removed with the exception being Miners Home, where the only pedestrian crossing remains. Deep excavation of the marshy trackbed has now commenced. New sleepers have now been stacked at Bispham whilst some track has been removed just beyond the North points, it is believed the points may be moved northwards to allow for a longer loop.
At Little Bispham the new northbound track is now in place and the southbound track bed has a ballast base. At this stage plain line has been put in across the loop entry and exit, but this is presumably temporary and will be replaced by points when the loop is dealt with.
