BLACKPOOL TRAMWAY TRACKWORK UPDATE
Blackpool & Fleetwood Tramway – Sunday 2nd December 2007

The trackwork on the Blackpool Tramway is continuing at a pace with all three locations seeing progress in the last few weeks.

The track has been completely lifted on the section between Little Bispham road crossing and halfway down Anchorsholme Hill. Little excavation is being done here and a new ballast base has been laid on the northbound trackbed with sleepers laid out. So far two or three lengths of rail have been laid near to the loop although the loop itself has not been touched. This section is being dealt with by Blackpool Council’s own gang.

Almost all the track has been removed from Gynn to Cabin south end and Cabin north end to Bispham south end. The trackbed north of Cabin is being cleared whilst south of Cabin the first concrete has been poured at the Cliffs. The loop line at Cabin has not been touched and is being used to store scrap materials. This section is under the control of Colas Rail.

The Birse section around the Pleasure Beach has seen track cleared from the crossover to the Sandcastle whilst the track has been mainly removed between Manchester Square and Central Pier with the bed excavated with work starting on the new base.

The track from Bispham to Norbeck has not yet been touched.
