Services on the Croydon Loop on London Tramlink are currently suspended with track replacement work taking place at six separate locations from Friday 21st August until Monday 30th August. The main work will see the replacement of 110 metres of track although other maintenance tasks will also be undertaken.
Phil Hewitt, TfL’s Director of London Trams, said: “Our Tramlink upgrade programme is essential work and will result in passengers getting a smoother ride with less disruption to their journeys in the future. Tramlink is now 10 years old and the works are needed to replace rails nearing the end of their working life. I would like to thank in advance Croydon residents, businesses and tram passengers for their patience during the upgrade. We have taken every step possible to minimise inconvenience to them.”
During the works trams will run from Wimbledon to Reeves Corner (with a peak period reduced frequency of every 10 minutes) and from East Croydon to New Addington/Beckenham Junction/Elmers End. Services east of East Croydon will reduced from a tram every 10 minutes to one every 12 minutes early in the morning whilst services to Elmers End will not run after 1900 each day, in early mornings or on Sundays.
The £1 million upgrade works will take place at Station Road West Croydon, Cairo New Road, Church Street, Wellesley Road and George Street (north end and south end).
