MER DERAILMENT AS INQUIRY LAUNCHED
Manx Electric Railway – Thursday 21st August 2008

An investigation has been launched after motor car 19 and trailer 48 derailed at Ballafayle, Maughold on the Manx Electric Railway on Wednesday 20th August in the afternoon. The derailment was not described as serious and nobody was injured in the incident.

John Kennaugh, Head of Railways, said: “It came off at the rail joint – it wasn't going particularly quickly as it had just come across the Ballafayle crossing.”

The incident is being investigated by the Chief Technical Officer and Health and Safety Officer who will report their findings to the Health and Safety Inspectorate.
