CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED TO SAVE CROSS RIVER TRAM
Cross River Tram – Sunday 10th August 2008

MPs, Councillors, local residents and the South London Press have joined together to back a petition calling on London Mayor Boris Johnson to give the go-ahead to the Cross River Tram, which would link Brixton and Peckham to Camden via Waterloo, Elephant and Castle and Stockwell.

The petition was originally created by the Evolution Quarter Residents’ Association (EQRA) who say that the tram will link up deprived areas with jobs and opportunities in central London whilst also relieving congestion on London Underground and also the buses.

Phil Bale, from EQRA, told the South London Press: “The tram could provide a real platform for the community to build on and if the Mayor is serious about beating crime and sharing opportunities he needs to back this."

The petition will be delivered to London Assembly members Val Shawcross and Caroline Pidgeon on 9th September before being given to Boris Johnson at question time the following day.

Upon election to the role of Mayor in May Mr Johnson announced he was conducting a review of the scheme, the details of which have not yet been revealed.

British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email.
