FARE DODGERS TO BE CHARGED £100 ON METROLINK Fare dodging on the Manchester Metrolink network is about to get a lot more expensive – any one caught with a ticket from Monday 11th May will be charged a standard fare of £100. An information campaign has just been launched by GMTPE to remind passengers to have a valid ticket before boarding a tram.
Philip Purdy, GMPTE’s Metrolink Director, said: “We take fare evasion very seriously. The vast majority of passengers make sure they have bought a valid ticket before travelling, and they shouldn't have to travel with the minority of unlawful people who choose not to pay. It's easy to buy a ticket - either at the stop or from over 200 PayPoint outlets across Greater Manchester. The new £100 standard fare sends out a strong message to passengers - buy a ticket or face the consequences."
The standard fare must be paid within 21 days, although anyone who pays within 14 days only has to pay £50. Failure to pay the standard fare could result in prosecution and legal proceedings. Inspectors check tickets seven days a week and will issue the fine to anyone without a valid ticket.

| British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email. |
