Environmental experts are to start inspecting the new Manchester Metrolink routes next week to check for protected species and to record which trees and shrubs will need to be replaced.
In addition to these environmental inspections, between the spring and autumn there will be surveys to update noise and air quality information and to investigate the ground and drainage conditions. Traffic levels will also be looked at to develop plans to manage the flow of traffic.
Michael Renshaw, Interim Service Delivery Director at GMPTE, said: “We'll be carrying out surveys from now until late autumn to help us prepare for the expansion of the Metrolink network. We'll be keeping people updated about when the surveys are taking place and we're working closely with the local authorities to plan this work. We need to have up-to-date information about the new Metrolink routes so that we know what to expect when work starts on building them."
More than 1,000 letters have been sent out to local residents and businesses about the surveys which will mostly take place between 0800 and 1800.
* GMPTE are hopeful that they will be in a position to announce which companies will be selected to build the new lines later this spring.
