SWORDFISH SPOTTED ON BOARD TRAM
Manchester Metrolink – Sunday 6th April 2008

No, you did read that headline right a swordfish was spotted on board a Metrolink tram this week along with several swimmers including five-time world swimming champion James Hickman. They were on board Metrolink to encourage people attending the FINA World Swimming Championships at the MEN Arena next week to go by tram.

Michael Renshaw, GMPTE’s Interim Service Delivery Director, said: “The MEN Arena is right next to Manchester Victoria train station so it makes sense for people to use public transport to get there. There's a Metrolink stop inside the station and the tram links up with several other bus and train stations in the city centre and in the rest of Greater Manchester. I hope tourists and local residents who are travelling to the FINA World Swimming Championships will use public transport to get there."

Free tram travel is being offered by the GMPTE for 1800 accredited staff, volunteers and athletes taking part in the Championships. The Championships themselves are being held between 9th and 13th April.

And the Swordfish – it wasn’t a real one but was Speedy the Swordfish the mascot of the championships.

British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email.
