PUBLIC URGED TO USE DOUGLAS HORSE TRAMWAY Local residents and tourists are both being urged to take a ride on the Douglas Horse Tramway this summer to help ensure the line remains open for future years. The comments were made by Cllr Raina Chatel, chairman of Douglas Borough Council’s leisure service committee, after discussion was held on the island about the restoration of the Manchester Horse Tram.
He said: “'Douglas Borough Council is fortunate to have a fleet of magnificently restored trams operating on a system dating back 132 years – the oldest horse drawn tramway in the world – and like our counterparts in Manchester we see them as part of our heritage, so we would urge Island residents and visitors alike to use them throughout the season to help us preserve this unique Victorian transport system.”

| British Trams Online is an enthusiast run website for enthusiasts. It should be able to be viewed at all screen resolutions but I do advise you that it is probably best at 1024x768. The site is owned, maintained (and in the main written) by Gareth Prior. Any comments or suggestions please email. |
